This is one of our favourite long weekenders, with a great mix of scenery, sealed roads and unsealed green lanes as we take you and your Adventure Bike on the roads it was designed for, you will also get rider coaching along the way to help you enjoy the ride even more.

Included is 3 nights accommodation and 3 days of riding, all you need to bring is yourself, your bike, a change of clothes and a sense of adventure & fun.

Terrain & Riding: A balanced mix of paved country backroads and easy unpaved surfaces (such as hard-packed dirt or fine gravel). Expect occasional switchbacks, rolling hills, and light traffic mixed with local wildlife or agricultural vehicles. Moderate riding endurance is required.

Cultural Experience: Authentic local atmosphere. You may encounter moderate language barriers, traditional local dining, and varying regional customs. Accommodations remain comfortable but may feature simpler, locally run guesthouses.

Highlights

Apart from riding some of the best Green Lanes in the country, we also see....

  • Hardknott Pass & Hardknott Roman Fort (Mediobogdum): One of Britain’s steepest and most famous mountain passes (gradients up to 33%).

  • Wrynose Pass: Features the Three Shire Stone, which historically marked the boundary where the old counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, and Lancashire met.

  • Honister Pass & Slate Mine: England's last working slate mine, which has produced green slate since the 1700s.

  • The Old Coach Road: Unsealed green lane historically used by horse-drawn coaches travelling between St John’s in the Vale and Matterdale.

  • Viaducts of the Settle–Carlisle Line: We follow the iconic 19th-century Victorian railway line, famous for its grand stone viaducts (such as Smardale Gill and Ribblehead).

  • Buttertubs Pass: Local farmers historically rested and lowered butter into the cool depths of the potholes.

  • Tan Hill: The highest Pub in England; we stop here for a pint.

  • Redmire Moor & Green Lanes: Historically rich in 18th- and 19th-century lead mining heritage, stone smelt chimneys, and disused shafts.

  • Rosedale Chimney Bank: Major 19th-century ironstone mining operations and kilns once operated.

  • Blakey Ridge & The Lion Inn: A historic pub dating back to 1553 and one of the highest points on the North York Moors.

  • Whitby Abbey: 7th-century Christian monastery (later rebuilt as a 13th-century Benedictine abbey) inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula and marks the end of the cross-country trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Lake District National Park

We start the night before and have Dinner together to get to know each other, provide a briefing, and answer any of your last-minute questions. On our first day riding, we head through the Lake District, taking in all the great passes, including the iconic, if not infamous Hardknott Pass early in the day, and finish with the Old Coach Road after riding several other unsealed roads in the area.

Day 2: Yorkshire Dales National Park

The scenery changes dramatically, gone are a lot of the single-track roads winding their way up, down, and between England's highest mountains.

Today, it's rolling hills as we ride through the Yorkshire Dales, stopping along the way at landmarks such as the Ribblehead Viaduct and riding the lovely Buttertubs Pass.

We increase the number of trails and green lane miles, we ride the Roman Cam High Road, cross streams, and ride over the fells before stopping for the night and a well-earned rest.

Day 3: North York Moors National Park

We finish the tour with another change of scenery, we ride England's longest unsealed road and cross the North York Moors.

The scenery across the moors, some would say, is bleak and barren; we prefer to think of them as an almost carless playground that has some of the best roads winding their way across the beautiful Heather moorland. We finish our ride in the beautiful town of Whitby on the East Coast around mid to late afternoon.

What to Expect

The Ride

This tour is run for between 2 and 6 Rides per group

We take as many Green Lanes as possible, but also adapt the exact route to each individual group and their skill level.

The route is designed to be big adventure-bike friendly, with a mix of super easy lanes and some more challenging ones. For everyone, there is also a sealed road bypass, allowing individuals to choose which lanes they want to ride and which they do not.

Accomodation

Tan Hill Pub, the highest pub in England
  • 3-Night Hotel/Pub Accommodation included

  • We include one night the day before we ride in the Lake District to allow travel time to get to the start for both you and us. Plus, it's probably a good idea to have a chat in a relaxed environment over a beer and some food before we set off the following morning.

  • Where possible, and this is usual, we tend to stay at places that include breakfast, but this cannot be guaranteed depending upon availability at certain establishments. It's best if you can book a date well in advance.
